One of my first blog posts on TSAF is about an airline I was recently really impressed with and also about one of my favourite countries that I’ve visited, because today JetBlue beings their scheduled Cuba service. JetBlue is a partner of Singapore Airlines, so by flying with them you can credit the miles to your Krisflyer account. JetBlue also partner with many of the other Star Alliance airlines because Lufthansa owns a reasonable sized stake in the company. You can see the other JetBlue air partners here.
Today JetBlue flew from Fort Lauderdale to Santa Clara in Cuba, making history as the first scheduled passenger jet service to depart the USA to Cuba. It’s been so long since passengers were able to fly to Cuba from the US, despite the close proximity to Miami, that the last plane to fly there was a propeller plane.
JetBlue is a great airline, the planes are all pretty new, the service is fantastic, and I love how it’s a low-cost airline but with all the extra frills. You get checked baggage, free snacks and drinks, and Star Alliance miles, which makes a big difference compared to the other low-cost US carriers like Spirit.
I’ll be interested to see how popular the US – Cuba flights become, especially when they start more services in Autumn/Fall 2016 (you can see the planned route map below). Cuba really is an incredible and beautiful country, and I’m excited to hear what this does for US and Cuban relations.
