united economy 777-200

Flight Review: United Economy Houston to Heathrow

I was recently in Houston and booked UA880 to London Heathrow with United. I’d booked a saver economy fare back to for this flight, so I only got 50% of the miles instead of the usual 100% but the flight was so cheap it was absolutely worth the saving and only getting 50% of the miles. As you may know by now I’m really not a fan of United, but they’re generous with the mileage earned through other Star Alliance members and often prices are very cheap compared to other carriers.

Flight Review:

I really like United’s group system when it comes to boarding, it makes things very easy and simple. It was my first time at Houston airport and it was decent, clean, spacious, and with plenty of food places.

The economy seats are in a 3-4-3 configuration, with 31″ seat pitch and all seats have seat-back entertainment. The entertainment choice on United isn’t huge, but they had a good selection of both new releases and classics as well as TV shows. They also have power sockets although ours didn’t work (I find 9/10 on planes they just don’t work!), and paid WiFi is available on the flight. Surprisingly for United the staff were in good spirits and were very friendly.

I’m not sure what it is about United’s seats, but I find them incredibly uncomfortable and this flight was sadly no different. I was shifting around in my seat quite a bit for the last couple of hours and wishing I was home already. There’s a movable headrest on each economy seat though which is useful if you want to sleep.

I’d eaten before the flight as I’m not a fan of United’s food, and took a load of snacks on the flight with me. I always recommend taking snacks on a flight as United never provide enough food.

The flight was fairly uneventful and after watching a few movies and getting some sleep, we landed in London on a chilly winter morning. It wasn’t the worst United flight I’ve been on, so I’d say that’s a win.
