After my journey from Sydney to Singapore in Singapore Airlines First Class and then a few hours experiencing the exclusive The Private Room at Changi airport, the final part of my reward flight on Singapore Airlines First/Suites Class from Sydney to Frankfurt was the Singapore to Frankfurt leg.
This was the part I was most excited for as I would be flying in the famous Suites class where you have your own cabin and a double bed if you’re lucky enough to have one of the middle seats all to yourself. Thankfully this was the situation with me. The seat next to me was empty, so instead of putting the partition up and turning my seat into a single bed as they would if someone were next to me, they turned it into a full double bed.

Flight Review:
The anticipation bubbled inside me as I boarded the plane and when I was shown to my seat I couldn’t believe I was finally experiencing the First Class Suites I had so often heard about. The A380 I was on had the old style Suites which was expected as the new Suites was only announced on certain routes in December.
The old style of Suites was designed by the French yacht designer Jean-Jacques Coste and you could certainly see the yacht influences coming through with the design of the suites. The design colours are cream, beige, and brown, and feel highly luxurious.
Each passenger has their own individual suite which looks like a cabin with sliding doors allowing full privacy. The configuration is 1-2-1, and the two in the middle can either have a partition wall between the two for privacy if you don’t know the person next to you, or if you’re a couple or travelling together you can keep the partition down.
If, like me, you’re travelling alone and the middle seat next to you is empty, you’re able to use it and you can turn it into a double bed. I had a look at one of the empty window suites nearby and it had three windows which allowed plenty of light in. If you’re not fussed about the double bed then I would for sure recommend booking a window seat if you’re travelling alone.
Compared to the new First Class I experienced on the Sydney to Singapore flight the seat in Suites on the A380 wasn’t as wide so you couldn’t sit in all sorts of positions (for example cross legged or with your feet up next to you). However this didn’t matter much as I planned to sleep for most of the flight.
Underneath the 22-inch widescreen television is a large footrest which can either be used to rest your feet on, or for a travel companion to sit so you can easily chat together face-to-face or have dinner together which I thought was a nice touch. This footrest/seat also has a seatbelt so your companion can stay there even during turbulence or when the seatbelt sign comes on. There’s also plenty of storage under the footrest.
This time we were given Bose noise cancelling headphones which were understandably very good, and again we were presented with Singapore Airlines cosy blue pyjamas, slippers, and the same Salvatore Ferragamo toiletry bag from the first flight which was much appreciated. Clothes were hung-up in my own private wardrobe behind my seat after changing into pyjamas.
Once again we were offered a choice between Krug and Dom Perignon champagne, and once again I chose Krug as I had heard from other reviews that it tastes better than the Dom Perignon at the higher altitude. Along with the glass of champagne we were also given a hot towel and a small bowl of mixed nuts.
Shortly after take-off dinner was served as it was past midnight by this point. Although I had already eaten dinner in The Private Room I enjoyed the meal. The famous Singapore Airlines caviar was served as a starter before I enjoyed my lobster thermidor main course booked with Book the Cook. Dessert was a chocolate mousse. All food was served on the beautiful Wedgwood fine-bone china.
There were lots and lots of storage compartments in the suite as well as USB and power points, free WiFi, and a stack of magazines in a magazine rack in the suite. The shades next to the doors could be lowered and raised depending on the level of privacy you wished. The walls are also high enough that other passengers and staff cannot see over the top of the doors and walls into your suite.
The crew were just magic and really couldn’t have been friendlier. They set up my bed after dinner and I marvelled at the way in which it was done. Rather than a mattress topper being placed on top of the flat seat, the seats went flat and a fold-out bed from behind the seat was pulled down with a much thicker mattress already on it. It was then dressed with a double duvet and six pillows (four rectangular ones and two cylindrical bolster-style pillows).
There is a gap inbetween the two beds which you can feel so it was actually more comfortable to sleep on the bed as if it were a single bed rather than spread across it as though it were a true double. However it made a great photo and was still an experience and I really appreciated the extra pillows as I could pad them around me to make it more comfortable.
I woke up just prior to breakfast service as we were coming in towards Frankfurt. I was still very full from the obscene amount of food I’d eaten the previous day, so I just ate the simple fresh fruit platter with a fresh orange juice.
My flight from Singapore to Frankfurt on the A380 in Singapore Airlines First Class suites was unforgettable and incomparable to any flight I have ever experienced. Just like all other Singapore Airlines flights I have enjoyed the service was like no other airline. The staff are unbelievably friendly and on-point without being too full on (which I find them to be on Thai Airways).
Although this was the old suites product it was mind-blowing and I would thoroughly recommend you save your points for this experience. It’s the best possible way of using them if you’re a Krisflyer member and I can’t imagine using them any other way other than by flying on their First class product.
